About Pam Sloan Art:
As an artist who is deeply inspired by the natural world, my work is an exploration of the interdependence between all living things and their environment. I seek to create art that not only captures the beauty and complexity of the natural world but also reflects the urgent need to protect it.
These limited-edition prints are from “Bats to Butterflies”, a series of paintings I completed during Covid isolation. Based on the Twelve Priority Species list generated by the Chicago Wilderness Alliance in 2017, each animal was selected by lead member organizations for monitoring and conservation. To create these paintings, I began by researching the animal's natural habitat, studying the vegetation, water sources, and other factors that contribute to its survival. I then created a composition that incorporates these elements into the painting, such as vegetation, sand, river rocks, and even bat guano. Rich colors were used to convey a sense of the animal's vitality and energy. Pam Sloan is an artist with prior careers in architecture and education. She holds BFA, MA, and MEd degrees. She is a Master Naturalist Volunteer for the Cook County Forest Preserves, and is editor-in-chief of "Blessed and Broken", a magazine published by the Kolbe House Ministry of the Chicago Archdiocese, which focuses on poetry and art from inmates at Illinois correctional facilities. |
