Brushwood Center
Brushwood Center invites artists in all media and of all levels to submit their work for consideration in our upcoming exhibition, "Metamorphosis: Emerging from the Dark." This exhibition is inspired by the extraordinary natural phenomenon of the brood X cicada emergence that will take place during the exhibition, and seeks to explore the themes of transformation, rebirth, and the journey from darkness to light.
Occurring once every 17 years, the arrival of the brood X cicadas serves as a powerful metaphor for rebirth and transformation. As these creatures emerge from the darkness of the soil into the light, we challenge artists to explore their own narratives of emerging from challenging times, overcoming obstacles, and embracing newfound light and possibilities. "Metamorphosis: Emerging from the Dark" encourages artists to delve into the symbolic and literal aspects of transformation. Whether it be personal growth, societal shifts, or the cyclical patterns observed in nature, we invite you to interpret the theme in your unique voice.
Submission Guidelines:
All mediums are welcome, including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, mixed media, digital art, video, and poetry. Performing arts may also be considered for inclusion during special events like the opening reception.
Exhibition Details:
The selected artworks will be featured in the exhibition at Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods from June 8 to August 16, 2024. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, June 8, and will coincide with Brood X Cicada related events happening in Ryerson Woods.
