Join us the weekend of November 5-6 for a Retrospective Pop-Up Exhibition of the work of artist and woodworker, Jim Mikkelsen. Working exclusively with carefully chosen logs that have fallen naturally or been removed due to construction or landscaping, Mikkelsen's work preserves the beauty of lost trees by exposing and celebrating the structure hidden within. Through a many layered process that begins with a chainsaw and ends with a fine polish, he exposes the natural grain patterns, color variations and imperfections of the wood to the light, where the tree's inner beauty can be seen from all angles. The organic and graceful sculptures and vessels that result are expressions both of beauty and of the artist's connection with the trees they came from. Each of his pieces is a one of a kind testament to the enduring beauty of nature.
All proceeds from the sale of Jim Mikkelsen's work during the exhibition will benefit Brushwood Center and Openlands. Join us Saturday, November 5 for a reception from 5-7pm. The event is free, no registration required. |
