Luna de Cuernos Free Bilingual Concert by Fifth House Ensemble
Friday, April 8th from 5 - 6:15 PM at Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center
Join Brushwood Center, Fifth House Ensemble, Round Lake Area Schools, and the Round Lake Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee for a free bilingual performance of Luna de Cuernos at the Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center.
It’s the story of a tight-knit group of friends and family under threat, and the risks they will take to defend the garden that is their community’s source of life. Doña Yuiza’s garden is the pride and joy of the neighborhood. When mysterious destructive forces threaten her carefully tended yard one night, the entire community must pull together to protect it. Luna de Cuernos is a modern interpretation of a Puerto Rican folktale inspired by the true stories of Chicagoans and told through music for woodwind quintet and stunning illustrations by Sarah Becan.
Praised by the New York Times for its “conviction, authority, and finesse,” the Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble harnesses the collaborative spirit of chamber music to reach beyond the traditionally-perceived limits of classical music. The ensemble’s artistic, educational, and civic programs engage theater groups, video game designers, corporate innovators, and folk bands to share stories as diverse as the communities it serves. Stay after the concert for a fun, "graphic score" workshop with Fifth House Ensemble musicians. Participants will learn different elements of music composition through drawing exercises, and the musicians will improvise performances based on the drawings.
Please contact Maria Colunga at 224.842.2017 or mcolunga@rlas-116.org for more information.
