About BlueMaroon Designs and Christine Mroz-Fries:
I am a mixed-media artist from Chicago, Illinois. A graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1991, my roots and early concentrations are in painting and drawing. My interest in art began as a young child when I found that it is often easier for me to communicate through art than through the spoken word.
My paintings are about life – its purity, mysteries, passion and chaos, and all of its tragedies and triumphs. They are self-portraits; often combining beauty, simplicity and a sense of humor to project as honest a thought as possible.
I enjoy playing with different images, materials and techniques to communicate an inner dialogue with the audience.
My creative path in life is an on-going, ever changing journey. I often paint over old paintings, keeping some of the images underneath – layering, showing an outline, a full image, a shadow or simply a whisper of what came before. This process of growth and renewal is not just how I create my work but how I view my life.
I have been fortunate to be a part of many solo and group exhibitions throughout the Midwest over the past 20 years – and am a recipient of a Community Arts Assistance Program Grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.
I was honored to have Warner Brothers Inc. purchase a piece of my work to be included in the final season of their show “Lucifer”.
