- Foliage and Feathers, Tammy Kordik and Frances Vail · 2016
Foliage & Feathers
Opening Reception: Sunday, November 13, 2016
Explore Tammy Kordik’s three dimensional paintings of foliage that literally leap off the canvas and watercolorist Frances Vail's detailed, life-size studies of birds’ wings. Free. No registration required. Exhibition runs November 13 – December 23, 2016.
About the artists:
Tammy J. Kordik works in mixed media to explore ways to create 3-dimensional leaf shapes that enter in to the space surrounding a 2-dimensional painting. She achieves this expression of 2 and 3 dimensional spaces by painting on a canvas and then extending leaves outside of the traditional border of the two dimensional surface. The painted leaves are created from a variety of materials including fabric, paper, and metal screening. The sculptural paintings explore the elements of shape, color and light as well as space. Her intention is to not only fill the walls of a gallery with her work but also to bring an intimacy to the ceiling and floor space as well.
Frances Vail is an award winning artist with both a national and an international reputation. After pursuing her lifelong passion for the arts at Syracuse University (M. A. Graphic Design and Painting), Frances moved to Europe to live in France and Austria for seven years. Traveling extensively, she was inspired to paint seascapes along the French Coast, as well as landscapes of the forested mountains to the east. Her artwork is shown in many collections abroad.
