Visible
An Exhibition: June 11 - August 27, 2023
Free, Open to the Public during Open Hours
Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods
Brushwood Center’s exhibition, Visible, presents artworks from twenty-six artists from Lake County, Chicago, and beyond. This exhibition consists of interviews, maps, and artworks highlighting how systemic inequities impact people’s access to a healthy environment, and how our resilient community is already working to create change.
Visible is a companion exhibition to the new Health, Equity, and Nature Accelerator report: Health, Equity, and Nature: A Changing Climate in Lake County, IL, working to interpret these often invisible realities into the universal language of art. In this exhibition, we examine both the findings of the report, and hear from artists as they explore the question of what health, equity, and access to nature means to them.
Featured Artists:
Natashna Anderson, Sandie Bacon, Rachel Claire Balter, Regina Bird, Kelley Clink, Matthew Cooper, Julie Cowan, Jenna Downing, John Hatlestad, Dawaune Lamont Hayes, Deborah Hirshfield, Laura Horan, Mirtha Ibarra, Julia Kemerer, Kendra Kett, Katherine H. Lampert, Carol Luc , Carolyn McMahon, Glen Moss, Carol Niec, Lilach Schrag, Mary Seyfarth, Naimah Thomas, Kayla J. Uqdah, Elizabeth Wilson, Meiqi Zhang
The Health, Equity, and Nature Accelerator
Launched in 2022, Brushwood Center’s Health, Equity, and Nature Accelerator was born in response to growing community demand and momentum for systemic change to address inequities at the intersection of health, climate, and nature. The Accelerator activates equitable nature-based solutions through community and healthcare partnerships.
The Accelerator’s newest report, Health, Equity, and Nature: A Changing Climate in Lake County, IL, is a tool for community members, organizations, and decision-makers to implement equitable, nature-based policy decisions to improve our communities’ health and wellbeing.
