  • Enriching Life: The Work of Heeyoung Kim and the Brushwood Botanical Artists
  • >
  • Jane Sturgeon

About Jane Sturgeon:

Picture
Nature has always been a passion of mine, and as the seasons change I wanted to capture those precious moments of joy and peace by painting.

My career has been spent in the pharmaceutical industry using my biology degree to create diagnostic tests to identify infectious diseases.

After leaving the industry to raise our four children, I missed the interaction with nature and the world of discovery. That is when I started taking botanical art classes at the Chicago Botanical Garden in 2011 and became a certified botanical artist in 2013.  The introduction to art by Marlene Hill Donnelly was the key to expressing my real passion for plants and nature.

I discovered Heeyoung Kim’s classes at Brushwood Center and have continued taking her wonderful, informative classes in  watercolor, pen and ink and graphite.

As a result of all this learning I have been fortunate to be accepted into art exhibitions, such as Filoli’s 19th Annual Botanical Art Exhibition in 2017 in Woodside, CA.; Carthage College’s “Articulate Visions:  The Convergence of Art and Science in 2015; Brushwood Center’s “Enriching Life at Brushwood Center by Heeyoung Kim and Botanical Artists:  1st through 6th Annual Art Exhibition; American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA)“Small Works”; Reed-Turner’s “Drawn to Nature” exhibitions; the Chicago Botanical Garden exhibitions and numerous local exhibits, as well as several articles for the “Botanical Artist” magazine of the ASBA.

Each new discovery has put me in awe of what God has created and the delicate balance of nature.  Life is a gift and art has helped me to see that more clearly.
