About Molly Cranch
|
Nature is a place of refuge and a source of healing, and I explore this connection through my work. This connection carries through in my work as both a fine artist, an educator, and a children's book author-illustrator. My paintings are characterized by gestural marks, soft colors and a sense of light and atmosphere. Subject matter might include closeups of bird, botanicals, or animals.
My paintings can be seen in various galleries at the local, national and international level. Past Gallery exhibitions include The Grand Hand in St. Paul, MN; New Morning Gallery in Asheville, NC; Five Crows Gallery in Natick, MA; The Autry Museum in Los Angeles, CA; The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, PA; The Tiny Finch in San Antonio, TX and The Peggy Notebaert Museum in Chicago, IL. Currently, I am writing and illustrating children's books with a focus on social-emotional well being and STEM. I am a member of the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and 12 x 12. I received a BFA in painting from Washington University in St. Louis and a K-12 certificate in art education from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I have taught art in public schools, museums and art centers for over 20 years including: The Chicago Public Schools, The American School of Madrid, and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. |
