Wool
In keeping with the mission of Ryerson Woods, this art exhibition focuses on the natural environment, and highlights an artistic medium that is derived from a renewable resource.
Two threads unite the work that is exhibited here – the use of wool as a medium to produce works of art, and the natural world as inspiration for such works. The two and three-dimensional art works on display demonstrate the versatility of wool as an artistic medium. In the pieces presented here, artists have used wool that is raw, felted, spun, and woven. Further, for some of the artists, dyeing the wool with natural dyes is an essential part of the creative process.
For each of the artists, nature is the central and guiding theme. This is reflected in variety of ways -- in natural forms, vistas and colors, and in a concern with preservation of the natural environment.
Judith S. Musick and Kristen Underhill Welch, curators
Participating Artists:
Sue Abbott • Mia Capodilupo • Linda Eisenberg • Pamela Feldman • Lialia Kuchma • Kathy Lisec • Mary McCallister • Judith Musick • Kristen Underhill Welch
