Open Job Opportunities:
Enjoy summer in the beautiful Ryerson Woods while supporting the important community work of Brushwood Center! The Summer Assistant work closely with Brushwood Center staff to support programs, exhibits, and facilities management.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with people and being part of a team, but able to complete tasks independently. The primary responsibilities will include:
Assisting with program set-up and coordination;
Organizing program materials and supplies as well as storage areas;
Indoor and outdoor maintenance tasks including some cleaning, gardening, etc.;
Greeting guests and visitors.
HOURS/DURATION: 10-15 hours per week for 2-3 months; ideal for teens as there may be opportunity for continued work during school year
RATE: $10 per hour
Excellent organizational and time management skills and practiced problem solver
Passion for helping others; interest in nature and the arts
Must be able to lift heavy tables and chairs (roughly 40lbs)

Community Engagement Fellow
The Community Engagement Fellow will work closely with the Program Coordinator to conduct outreach and cultivate new partnerships with Latinx communities, immigrant communities, and other diverse audiences in Lake County, Illinois with a focus on conservation of monarch butterflies, birds, pollinators and other migratory species.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with people and being part of a team. The primary responsibilities will include:
Cultivating relationships with new potential partners, including community clinics and immigration service organizations, by meeting with them and identifying their needs and the best opportunities for collaboration;
Creating three bilingual, nature-based art modules about monarch butterflies, migratory species, and pollinators that can be easily implemented at partner locations by volunteers using materials from Brushwood Center’s art supply exchange;
Helping to plan a family-friendly “Forest of Health / Bosque de Salud” cultural festival that engages both existing and new partners in culturally relevant programming and volunteer opportunities.
HOURS/DURATION: 35 hours per week for 16 weeks (some flexibility)
RATE: $16 per hour
Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
Fluent in Spanish and English
Excellent organizational and time management skills and practiced problem solver Must be proficient in MS Office SuiteMust be able to lift heavy tables and chairs (roughly 40lbs) Pursuing a college degree in a related field OR recent graduate of a related field
Candidates must be able to drive and have access to reliable transportation.
