Field Museum at Brushwood Center

In 2016, Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods announced a new partnership with The Field Museum. This quarterly speaker series is designed to inform Northern Illinois residents on new and brilliant research underway at The Field Museum - without the long drive to Chicago. This new partnership gives The Field Museum a chance to reach their northern neighbors while allowing the Brushwood Center a chance to further the conversation on important environmental and cultural issues that impact our region and world.

Quality of Life planning for conservation in Chicago

with Jacob Campbell

Sunday, November 5

Learn about how and why childhood has moved indoors and the exciting ways that The Field Museum and other Lake County partners are helping counteract this trend. Alison Paul invites conservation and youth leaders, parents, teachers, and youth to join her in a conversation to discuss ways in which we, as a community, can build a strong and diverse next generation of conservation leaders in Chicago.

Monarch butterfly numbers are in a decline, but there is an energetic movement to turn those numbers around. Find out what has contributed to their developing endangerment and how urban areas--and you--can be part of the solution.

Join Dr. De Souza as she discusses critical environmental and cultural conservation efforts of tropical fish in the Amazon and her work on the Keller Science Action Center's Rapid Inventory Team.

Access to natural areas is an important aspect of living a healthy, happy life. Learn how Dr. Campbell and his Social Science Team work with underrepresented communities to ensure the access and availability of natural areas, and, in turn, the conservation of those spaces.
