Board of Directors

Eleanor Ranney-Mendoza

The great-grand daughter of Edward L. Ryerson, Ellie continues her family’s tradition of involvement at the Brushwood Center while offering a delightfully fresh perspective as a native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and a professional musician. A soprano with advanced music degrees, Ellie performs early music, opera and chamber music. Ellie hopes to work with a wide network of regional musicians to develop a robust music program at Brushwood Center with performances for all ages. She sees the intimacy of the Brushwood living room as a perfect venue for chamber music and looks forward to regular events there as well as using the unparalleled natural beauty of Ryerson Woods for larger events. Ellie lives in Chicago with her husband, Javier Jose Mendoza, who is a conductor and music scholar, and their three young children. She takes children’s music education very seriously and will work to develop a dedicated children’s component to the music programming at Brushwood Center. “My parents and grandparents were active supporters of music, so my role at Brushwood Center will be to bring music full circle.”
